Reffered to by Carlinhos Brown as the “electronic terreiro” (terreiro: worship space used in Candomblé- Afro-Brazilian religious tradition), Candombless brings together high ranking elders from Candomblé communities with popular musicians, creating an authentic sound, different from anything currently present in the Brazilian popular music. With a total of 17 members, the group includes 7 atabaques played by Ogãs (male initiates), Tata Monale (Candomblé high ranking elder) and Filhas de Izaze, who are responsible for the traditional songs. The sacred sound is mixed with electric drums and percussion, keyboard, samplers and electric violin, the latter being played by Felipe de Souza, who is also the musical director. The group also includes rapper Sinho and singer Daniela.
